In the late seventies BMW built no 3 Series convertible. The Stuttgart coachbuilder Baur designed one its own way: safe, thanks to a fixed roll-bar across the cabin, and versatile, thanks to a roof cut in two — a panel that lifts off above the front seats and a soft top that folds down behind the bar. BMW's own 3 Series convertible only arrived in the mid-eighties.
